You've probably noticed by now that this isn't your typical Friday newsletter from Matt, right? I'm Molly, part of Matt's team. I handle marketing and branding for the Matt Haycox Group. This week, Matt said, "Moll, go ahead and write about what you've learned from working with me!" So, here we are...

A voice note at 3am? Yes! Work never stops for an entrepreneur. I thought I'd hate it, but (pause for dramatic effect), it keeps me on my toes, its action packed, offers creative freedom for my ideas, and keeps me constantly engaged. Good thing I like working under pressure!

So, what have I learnt?

Emphasis on Networking and Partnerships:
Transitioning from the luxury fashion industry to a role involving entrepreneurship and investment emphasised the importance of networking and partnerships. Matt always says that his business was built on networking, and now I understand why. I've learned the value of forging relationships with entrepreneurs, industry experts, and podcast guests to enhance the brand's visibility and reach. We all know that effective networking and collaboration can significantly contribute to the success of the brand and its marketing initiatives. It's clear now—hail networking!

Resilience and Openness to New Ideas:
This can relate to both Matt and me. So, starting with Matt, working for a successful entrepreneur, you might think it's a strait-laced, 'my way or the highway' scenario, but that's not the case with Matt. Surprisingly (and within reason), I’ve had a lot of free rein over content creation, ideas, and input. I love being creative, dedicating time to graphics, content, and copywriting, which has been fun and has opened up the role to something I'd look for in a job anyway.

For me, I’ve learned that being open to new ideas and concepts, both in life and in my career, is crucial. Trying new things and not hesitating to start afresh. Transitioning between different industries, I've realised the importance of staying resilient. Within reason, you can do whatever you put your mind to—something I’m understanding a little more every day.

Ambition:
Setting high goals is the key to success. Moving from the fashion industry to the entrepreneurial world has shown me the value of aspirations. It's essential to aim high and work towards achieving those ambitions. I’ve progressed from being an assistant to a junior manager, and now to a managerial position, which I'm really enjoying. Obviously, I can’t write about ambition if I have nothing to back it up with. So, here goes: prior to this job and other roles, I owned my own business—a boutique selling pre-loved designer clothing and accessories. I set this up on my own with a loan from The Prince’s Trust. That entrepreneurial spirit is still very much ingrained in me. Of course, I want to have another business further down the line, but working for someone, and in a somewhat independent company, is really helpful. There is so much to learn, get stuck into, and grow from. Going forward, I want to be at the top of my game, and that means staying and progressing within a higher position. Of course, if Matt allows me, but with that comes further success and a cheeky pay rise – winner winner 😉

It’s safe to say, we're all screen addicts. We spend more time with our screens than we do with our partners! And who needs sleep anyway?

But guess what? All this scrolling isn't doing us any favours. Anxiety, lack of sleep, obesity - it's all part of the package deal. I get it. Taking a step back from our screens sometimes can’t be helped because of our careers, etc. But here's the plot twist: too much screen time actually makes us less productive in the long run.

We can all brag about how we're always plugged in, always working, always hustling. But finding that balance between business, your job, life, social media, and personal well-being is, in this case, the best thing for us.
