Do you actually like Bonfire Night?
Most founders burn out the same way.
Hey,
I’ve been thinking about Bonfire Night, are you doing anything?
I’ve got to be honest, it’s never really been my thing. Standing around in the freezing cold, half your toes numb, listening to the same bangs every 10 seconds while pretending you’re enjoying it.
That said, there’s something about it that always gets me thinking about business.
Everyone’s chasing fireworks, the next big thing, the flashiest launch, the viral post that’ll “change everything.” But here’s the catch: most people don’t actually know how to control the fire once they get it going.
I’ve seen it a hundred times, and I’ve done it myself.
A few quick wins, a burst of momentum, and suddenly you’re juggling five new ideas, hiring people you don’t need yet, throwing money at things that look exciting but don’t actually move the needle.
It feels like progress… until it isn’t.
Because when you feed every flame, you eventually lose control of the fire.
The smartest founders I know, and I’d put myself in this category now, after a lot of painful lessons, don’t chase sparks.
They build controlled heat.
They focus on one fire that actually lasts.
So as you’re watching the fireworks this week, ask yourself, are you lighting up your sky just for show? Or are you building a fire that’ll still be burning long after the noise dies down?
Matt
P.S. If you’re done chasing sparks and ready to build something that actually lasts, my eBook The Power of One shows you exactly how to do that 👇
